Yumiko Ichikawa STILL LIFES & LANDSCAPES IN GOUACHE AND DARWINGS

About the Artist

Myself   Yumiko Ichikawa

Yumiko Ichikawa is an artist who has been painting in water media for over 15 years. She started out with transparent watercolor but her recent works are mostly done in gouache (opaque watercolor). She really loves the way gouache looks. Gouache has a pastel-like dry color, an oil-like heavy body, and a watercolor's fluidity. Her subject matters include still life and landscape. Charcoal is a recent addition to her media and she often combines charcoal with gouache or acrylic when she draws figures.

Yumiko was born and grew up in Tokyo, Japan. She received a B.A. degree in Fine Arts at Kyoritus Women's University, Tokyo, Japan and a M.F.A degree at Radford University in Virginia. She has been a full-time artist and recently she started teaching watercolor and drawing at Radford University.

Yumiko's work has been exhibited nationally and awarded at such prestigious juried exhibitions as the American Watercolor Society International Exhibition, the National Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition, the Virginia  Watercolor Society Jurored Exhibition among others. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.
